Nigeria: Kebbi to Re-Award Zauro Irrigation Project

Birnin-Kebbi — The Kebbi State Government has said that the controversial N18 billion Zauro Polder Irrigation Project contract would be re-awarded and completed within the shortest possible time.

The state's Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Abdulahi Bunza said the contract, which was awarded in 2007 by the Federal Government in partnership with the Kebbi State government, was abandoned due to some challenges.

Bunza said with the efforts of the present administration, the contract has been revived, adding that the state government would provide 30 per cent while the Federal Government would provide 70 per cent of the funds needed for the project.

The commissioner added that the project, which is aimed at developing irrigation projects

within the fadama area of the Rima River from Brinin kebbi to Arugungu, has been redesigned.
