Nigeria: Electricity - Shiroro Station Shuts Down Over Low Water Level

The current improvement in power generation has suffered a setback as the Shiroro Hydro-electric Power Station in Niger State has been shut down, following a decline in the level of water in Kaduna River.

The development, which has led to loss of 450 megawatts(MW), is however offset by the coming on stream of the second unit of the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) power station at Sapele and also the repair of the gas supply line that feeds the second power station in Sapele, which belongs to the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).
