Tanzania: Kariakoo Market in 42 Billion TZS Expansion Bid

PLANS are afoot to expand Kariakoo Market and improve services around the biggest market in Dar es Salaam. The face-lifting of the market is in line with plans to attract investment and boost businesses at the busiest shopping area in the city.

Kariakoo Market Corporation General Manager Florens Seiya said the project would cost 42bn/-. Once expanded, the market's capacity will increase five-fold, he said. Mr Seiya told the 'Daily News' that some investors have expressed their interest in constructing the market and that the administration in collaboration with other stakeholders was working on the applications to come up with a single qualified and competent investor.
