Kenya: Bamburi Cements Its Backing to Super Series

The Bamburi Rugby Super Series got a major boost on Wednesday when title sponsors Bamburi Cement Limited raised its package to Sh12 million.

The firm's marketing director, Robert Nyangaya, said the additional Sh300,000 will support Ugandan franchises Victoria and Rwenzori. Kenya will field defending champions Rhinos, Cheetahs, Lions, Sharks, Coast Bulls and Buffaloes.

Prize money unchanged

Last year, the leading local cement manufacturer forked out Sh11.7 million, which saw the series played for the first time in Mombasa and Mumias as Coast Bulls made their debut.

The 10th edition of the series, which kicks off May 5, will take rugby enthusiasts once again to Mombasa, Nairobi, Nakuru, Mumias and Kampala.

The final is scheduled for June 2 in Nairobi with the prize kitty unchanged at Sh1 million.

"The cost of transport and accommodation has always been a challenge," Nyangaya noted.
