Unlike in the past, the election that led to the emergence of the current Speaker of the Bayesal State House of Assembly was competitive and contested by notable legislators without the noticeable influence of the state governor, Seriake Dickson.

Observers say that the emergence of the new Speaker, Kombowei Benson, on February 20, 2012 was another message to the people of the state and the political class that the old order may have become a thing of the past and that the actions and posture of a new order under the new administration may be different and focussed on the restoration agenda of change.
