Kofi, a 15-year old, is the oldest of three children and has Autism. When he was around two years old he began to act differently. Something began to change in him, according to his parents. He became a stranger to his family and had a lot of symptoms: he quit talking, cried a lot of the time and threw tantrums if he was disturbed or made to leave the house. He became non-social and did not understand what people said to him.

Loud noises really upset him and Kofi would become scared and scream or plug his ears. Some odours bothered Kofi so much that he would pull his shirt up over his face so that he wouldn't have to smell them. His parents said it was difficult to find something for him to eat because tastes and textures were offensive to Kofi, but they didn't know that.
