Nigeria: House Committee Chairman Isn't Competent to Investigate SEC - Oteh

Director general of the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC), Arunmah Oteh on Thursday, alleged that the House Committee asked for N35m for public hearing and another N5m on Tuesday and therefore queried the competence of the chairman to continue to lead the investigation.

Oteh, who sought the leave of the committee to say a few words when the hearing commenced started by saying that she was in doubt that the chairman of the committee, Hon Herman Hembe was competent to carry out an investigation of the commission considering that he had made several demands of the commission before the investigation commenced.

She noted that he was given estacode by the commission along with a business class ticket in October last year to represent the country in a conference in Dominican Republic which he failed to attend.

She also pointed out that he did not refund the monies paid to him to attend the conference.

With rising tempo, she queried the relationship between the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives and the former director general of NSE, Ndidi Okereke-Onyuike who he said is her aunt and the fact that the wife of the deputy speaker is a staff of the commission, adding that it puts her in a prejudiced position.
