General Salou Djibo Addresses ECOWAS Observers in Bissau

Bissau — The Head of the ECOWAS Observation Mission and former Interim President of Niger, General Salou Djibo, met with other members of the Mission on 16th March 2012 in Bissau to brief them on the activities relating to the presidential election in the country.

Specifically, he updated the observers on the political and security situation in Guinea Bissau as well as the code of conduct for the observers, particularly as it relates to their neutrality which, he admonished, must never be compromised.

The observers also received briefings from the ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Mrs. Salamatu Hussaini Suleiman, the Special Representative of the President of the ECOWAS Commission to Guinea Bissau, Ambassador Ceesay Ansumana and the Director of political Affairs of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Jonas Hemou. The briefing session precedes the deployment of the observers across the nine regions of the country.
