Somalia: Five Dead As Govt and AU Forces Clash With Al-Shabab in Mogadishu

Mogadishu — At least two people have been killed in an overnight offensive by Al-shabab militants on military bases housing to Somalia and AU peacekeeping forces parts in Mogadishu, reports said on Saturday.

Witnesses told Shabelle Media that the fierce fighting sparked when some Al-shabab agents have launched a surprise mortar attack on TFG and AMISOM positions at the villages of Hoosh,Aba-Gedo and Ex-control Afgoye junction, south of Mogadishu, killing two soldiers from both rival sides.

In addition, unidentified gunmen attacked last night on a government police station in Yaqshid district in northern Mogadishu, killing three local residents. The troops are conducting in the area massive security operation to hunt down the perpetrators.

There was no immediate comment from Somali government and Al-Shabaab insurgents about the combat in the capital, Mogadishu.
