Tanzania: Officer Defends Mahanga On Ballot Boxes

A FORMER OCS for Buguruni Police Station (OCS) Mark Njera testified on Tuesday in an election petition case facing Segerea legislator Dr Makongoro Mahanga.

The police officer denied ever receiving any report concerning the arrest of Dr Mahanga with ballot boxes during the 2010 elections in Segerea constituency. Mr Njera testified as a fourth defence witness in the case, where Fred Mpendazoe of CHADEMA has asked the High Court to overturn Dr Mahanga's victory on the ground that the election was marred by irregularities.
