Photo: Simone Gbagbo Website "Will Mrs Gbagbo be transferred to The Hague?" asks a front-page headline in Le Nouveau Reveil which informs readers that Ivorian investigators will be meeting tomorrow the former first lady, Simone Gbagbo, "to inform her about new charges" in connection with investigations into crimes allegedly committed during the 2010-2011 post-election violence in Cote d'Ivoire.
The paper (p. 2) considers the different scenarios that could unfold tomorrow in Odienne, where the former first lady is being detained, when the investigators meet her in the presence of her lawyers. The paper also comments that the search for reconciliation in Cote d'Ivoire should not impede the establishment of justice.
"Probable transfer of Simone Gbagbo to the ICC as her lawyers are expected in Odienne today," reads a prominent headline in Soir Info (p. 1). An article in this paper (p. 2) quotes Toussaint Dako Zahui, the lawyer of the former first lady, confirming the hearing of his client. However, the lawyer has not been able to confirm rumors of Mrs Gbagbo's transfer to the International Criminal Court, reports the paper, which quotes supporters of the former regime saying that they are prepared for any turn of events.
"I'm going to inform Simone Gbagbo about news charges," a front-page headline in Le Patriote quotes Ivorian prosecutor Simplice Kouadio as saying. The paper (p. 5) however quotes insiders as saying that issues related to the transfer of the former first lady to the ICC will not be part of the agenda.
In a related development, a prominent headline in L'Inter (p. 1) suggests that former Ivorian president Laurent Gbagbo, who is facing trial at the ICC for crimes allegedly committed during the 2010-2011 post-election violence in Cote d'Ivoire, is preparing for the June 28 hearing at The Hague where judges are expected to rule on whether the former Ivorian leader should be formerly charged or not. On how Gbagbo is doing in prison, the paper (p. 4) quotes visitors claiming that the former Ivorian strongman is in "good shape" and "ready" for the June 28 hearing.
