Nigeria: Gowon - Cases of Malaria, Elephantiasis Low

Former Head of State retired General Yakubu Gowon yesterday said cases of malaria and elephantiasis --transmitted by mosquitoes--are low in Nigeria even though an estimated 70 million Nigerians need medication for both.

Speaking at a national conference to stop their spread in Nigeria, Gowon said the country need "a rapid scale-up of interventions targeting the two diseases."
