Sudan: Shelling in Jebel Marra Enters a Third Day

Jebel Marra — The Sudan Liberation Movement led by Abdel Wahid (SLM-AW) said the government shelled villages in Jebel Marra for a third day causing thousands of people to flee.

'We killed 87 soldiers and government militants in Rofatah, destroyed 17 vehicles and recovered seven', said SLM-AW spokesman Nur Al Din Abdullah to Radio Dabanga.

'We did lose one of our soldiers in the fighting and two were wounded', added the spokesman.

He said the Sudanese army is bombing the villages of Nari, Jerri, Sinjo, Amra Rashid, Kaya, Fatah and Amar Jadid.

More than 30,000 are thought to have fled to nearby areas, trying to find shelter in the harsh mountainous terrain where there is no water.
