Photo: Simone Gbagbo Website A report in Fraternite Matin (p. 7) says that a meeting between former Ivorian first lady Simone Gbagbo and judges in connection with investigations into crimes allegedly committed during the 2010-2011 post-electoral crisis in Cote d'Ivoire has been postponed. The paper also quotes the state prosecutor, Simplice Kouadio who announced that the hearing will "probably take place today."
Meanwhile, Notre Voie (p. 1) denounces what it describes as a "dubious" game being played by the International Criminal Court. According to the paper (p. 2), the state prosecutor yesterday informed the former first lady, who is detained in the northern city of Odienne, about an arrest warrant issued against her by the ICC. The paper also quotes sources as saying that the ICC's order contains the same accusations leveled against former Ivorian president Laurent Gbagbo, who is facing trial in The Hague. Reporting on the same issue, Le Nouveau Courrier (p. 1) suggests that the Ivorian justice has made a U-turn as it abandons plans to transfer the former first lady to the ICC.
"The fate of Simone to be known tomorrow," says a front-page headline in L'Inter which hints that the hearing of Mrs. Gbagbo, which was originally scheduled to be held yesterday, has been postponed until tomorrow. The paper (p. 4) suggests that tomorrow's hearing will determine whether the former first lady will be tried in Cote d'Ivoire or will be transferred to the ICC. With more on the fate of the former first lady, a front-page headline in Soir Info announces that the European Union has lifted its sanctions against Mrs Gbagbo.
