Warri — AS the level of insecurity heightens in Delta State, the head of the state anti-kidnapping squad put together by the state police Command, Mr. Dickson Adeyemi (CSP) has been arrested over alleged sponsorship of kidnappings in the state.
Dickson was arrested with all members of the squad by men of the Force CID and immediately taken to Abuja for further investigation.
While making this disclosure yesterday the state Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, at a press briefing held at the Government House Annex, in Warri, confirmed that about 40 people were currently in police net over cases of kidnaps in the state.
The governor lamented that security operatives who are supposed to protect lives and properties have become the perpetrators of heinous crimes in the state.
He said that the state government is collaborating with security agencies and community leaders to find a lasting solution to the issue of armed robbery and kidnapping.
He said that the government was providing all necessary infrastructures and logistics to enhance intelligent gathering.
Governor Uduaghan however cautioned indigenes of the state to be more security conscious as most of the kidnapping cases are facilitated by insiders such as drivers and relations who may want to get back at their victims. He also called on the people to be discreet in their financial transactions.
According to him, "we have discovered that insiders are involved in most of the kidnapping cases, drivers, relations and friends have been found culpable in most of the cases that has been unraveled by the security operatives, even a pastor was recently found to be responsible for the kidnap of a fellow pastor he is now in police net".
While appealing to members of the Nigeria bar association to take issue of kidnappers more seriously, he said their rush to seek bail for suspects further emboldens them to continue in the criminal act.
Governor Uduaghan also warned families of kidnapped victims against rushing to pay ransom to kidnappers stating that such act also encourages them to continue to take hostage.
He however appeal to them to always cooperate with security operatives as adequate security measure is been put in place to put a stop to the criminality.
"Family of kidnap victims should not rush to pay ransom to kidnappers, this will further encourage them to continue in the act rather they should cooperate with security operatives as security measure are been put in place to check the menace of kidnappers".

THE REAL HƐRƐM PRACTITIONERS OF NIGERIA One African proverb: "Nkịta adịghị ata ọkpụkpụ a nyanyere ya n'olu", [a dog does not eat the piece of bone yoked to its neck for its identification]. These robbers are 'typical nigerians'...Unfortunately, they make up a vast, vast, majority of the population. That's why "the" Nigeria is as it is...A culture of heinous hypocrisy! Even the 'struggle' against the hɛrɛm-born terrorists of najériya has been turned into a self-millionair-izing venture by some of the so-called security agents or agencies...
