South Africa: Hospital Chaos At Vanguard Health Centre

Not for the first time I have been flooded with letters of complaints of inefficiency at the Vanguard Community Health Centre.

Residents and users of the hospital are up in arms about the lack of care and compassion shown for patients.

What are particularly sad are the early hours the elderly and sick come to the hospital.

"Sometimes they arrived at 5am in the morning and only leave at 3pm in the afternoon, an irate anonymous client," said.

Another complaint was the attitude of staff, including nurses and doctors. Many times patients are in pain and doctors display a dismissive approach.

The staff at reception window is no angels and can certainly do with customer training as there behaviour borders on absolute disrespect.

Furthermore, the favouritism of service delivered to blacks at the expense of coloureds is fuelling racial tension at the hospital. This is not the first time I have been told of problems at the health facility.

When I probe for answers and or clarity, no one from the hospital or health committee was available for comment.
