Nigeria: SUBEB Suspends Education Secretaries, Accountant Over N2.8 Million Fraud

Makurdi — THE Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has suspended the education secretaries of Vandeikya and Ogbadibo Local Government Areas, Mr. Marcelinus Egum and Mr. Abutu Benedict as well as the accountant in Ogbadibo, over an alleged N2.8 million fraud.

A statement by the Information Officer of the board, Mr. Lemon Atero in Makurdi yesterday said the report from the recent verification exercise of primary schools in the state showed that the trio allowed names of retired and deceased teachers to remain on the pay rolls of the affected local government education authorities from July to December 2011.

The statement directed the suspended officers to hand over to the most senior staff in their departments with immediate effect.
