Kenya: Nakuru Starts Phasing Out Old Commercial Buildings in Town

The Municipal Council of Nakuru has served notice to owners of old commercial buildings in the town whose leases have expired to demolish and put up high-rise structures.

Town Clerk Kaiyo Mbulusi said that the local authority intends to phase out old structures as most had small capacity that cannot satiate rising demand for commercial space. "These plots are small with old buildings roofed with old iron sheets and without ample parking spaces, there are no basement for these plots," said Mbulusi. "We have given a notice to the owners of the buildings whose leases have already expired to put them down and construct modern ones."
