Washington, DC — The following is a statement by U.S. Secretary Clinton on the 18th Anniversary of the 1994 Rwandan genocide:

Today we remember and honor the lives lost and families destroyed on that tragic day 18 years ago in Rwanda. The United States stands in solidarity with the Rwandan people, and we admire their resilience and the enormous strides they have made in recovering from that unspeakable event. We will never forget those deplorable days. And we are committed to working with the government and people of Rwanda to complete their recovery and move forward toward a future of reconciliation, economic growth, peace, and better lives.
