Nigeria: Buruku - Group Calls On Speaker to Swear in ACN Candidate

A group, Buruku Solidarity Movement has called on the Speaker of the federal House of Representatives, AminuTambuwal to swear in Sekav Iyortyom as the member representing Buruku federal constituency.

Iyortyom was declared the rightful candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the 2011 House of Representatives election for Buruku federal constituency by the Court of Appeal sitting in Makurdi.

The group in a statement signed by the leader of BSM, Mr. Terlumun Kpan, said both the High Court and Court of Appeal sitting in Markudi had ordered that Hon. Iyortyom be sworn in immediately after conclusion of hearing on the matter in consideration of all available evidences provided by counsels to both parties.

The group said contrary to the directive of the two courts however, the speaker of the House has refused to swear in the right candidate thereby denying Buruku Federal constituency proper representation and called on the speaker to swear in Iyortyom immediately.

Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs to the Speaker, Imam Imam when contacted, said Iyortyom has not been sworn in as the matter, being a pre-election issue, has not been concluded as there's an appeal before the supreme court concerning the case which has to be decided before any action can be taken.
