Windhoek — The 12th edition of the Namibian Newspaper Cup played over the Easter weekend in the southern town of Keetmanshop started and ended in an astounding fashion, after the Erongo Region trounced the Oshana Region by 2-0, to comfortably win the 2012 edition Nami-bian Newspaper Cup.
In what could easy be labelled as a dog-eat-dog affair, two clinical goals from Colwyn Gaoab and Mapenzi Muwanei handed the Erongo Region a well-deserved victory after a tightly contested match, as the northern giants refused to give in that easily.
Playing their fast and attacking style of football, the Erongo Region kept the defending Oshana Region at bay for the better part of the game with some great counter-attacks from Willey Gaseb and Elto Masima. However, the Oshana Region also had chances of their own, but failed to convert the opportunities into goals.
Meanwhile, in the losers final, the Otjozondjupa Region defeated the Omusati Region 4-1 via a penalty shootout after a 2-all draw.
The full results from the other games will be in tomorrow's edition.
