Namibia: Mshasho, Dollar Six Set Ondangwa Ablaze

Ondangwa — Local kwaito artist Sedekia Nakaambo, aka Dollar 6, who had disappeared from the music industry after the release if his second album some three years ago, has made a comeback.

He staged an electrified performance at Ondangwa Facebook.com lounge on Easter holiday. Dollar 6 told New Era ArtLife that his performance with The Dogg, Mshasho last week in Ondangwa was a show to let his fans know that he is still alive and kicking. "I was struggling to get funds for my third album release.

I went knocking from one door to another and other prospective sponsorships kept me waiting but God (Kalunga) seems to be now answering my prayers. The National Arts Council of Namibia and Trade Investment gave me some money to release my album hence my live performance here," he explained

He performed alongside The Dogg, in a concert dubbed "Revolution party". That was a rare combination by the youthful and energetic Dollar 6 having gradually built impressive artistic curriculum vitae in the Namibian music scene.

The 29 year old kwaito star said with the sponsorship he received, he had managed to release his third album entitled, "Omulongelo Gwakutha Omukwawo Kelimba which literally means "You give me, l give you".

He encourages other starving Namibian artists to keep on knocking as the doors will be opened to them one day. He explains that it took him four years for his artistic dream to be realised. "I have worked hard and I was patient and finally my patience paid. If I have done it why not you as an upcoming artist who needs his or her work to be recorded?" he advises

Dollar 6 also advises some Namibian business and corporate organisations to support upcoming artists because music is entertainment and its big business all over the world. He is convinced that Namibian music industry will be the best in Africa and the industry will only make it when corporate companies invest in this lucrative sector.

His third and latest album was composed in English, Afrikaans and his indigenous language, Oshiwambo, in the Kwaito, gospel, traditional sukus and kwasa kwasa genres.

He says that he did not have a launch of the album but his sharing stage with award-winning artists like The Dogg will benefit him a lot more in terms of his exposure and experience.

"The fact that I m still an upcoming artist, and my budget is tight, means that I will have to work hard for my survival and I have to plan for many more shows with the Mshasho army like the one you have witnessed today at Facebook.com lounge," he explains

Currently he is working on his fourth album and a comedy film that will be out next month. "I cannot divulge some more information on the comedy film as my idea will be stolen by some hungry and jealous artists, and my right time will be ripe for you guys to write about that."

His music video from the song No Fear featuring another local kwaito artist , Crazy Dogg, was shot and is now being broadcast on One Africa and NBC TV.

Now that Dollar 6 is back, he says he is ready to perform all over the country. Since the launch of his third and 13 track album he has performed at Miss Okapya, Miss Otapi and Miss Facebook.com lounge all in December last year. His unforgettable show was the New Year bash in Windhoek's Sam Nujoma Stadium this year.

Facebook.com lounge has seen many top Namibian artists performing. Artists such as Uno Boy and Tate Buti have performed by public demand of Ondangwa revelers.

Owner of Facebook.com lounge, Tradie Nakwafila, says live shows are always full to capacity. "Since we officially opened this lounge in August 2011, the demand from our customers has forced us to bring artists for live shows here.

We have also tried by all means to bring entertainment business in Ondangwa and Face book.com lounge has become a hot spot," Nakwafila says

Apart from that Nakwafila also adds that he has lined up many entertainment events including boxing tournaments so as to empower the youths. "We have many events including boxing tournaments.

We now have an Ondangwa Boxing club here at Facebook.com lounge as well. We are inviting each and everyone that loves sport as entertainment to come and be part of talent in Ondangwa. The beauty about this year Easter's itinerary was that our music fans got spoilt for their choice," he says.

Facebook.com lounge was opened in August last year and has become a hot entertainment spot in Ondangwa. The Face book "Revolution party" saw other upcoming artists like Leizy "the Maestro" Elliah Naku, DJ Sebby and DJ K Boss putting up a wonderful act during their Easter bash.

DJ Sebby is the resident disc jockey and performs every weekend.

The party was powered by Hotel Destiny and 100 fm Energy radio station and all revelers were presented with Easter eggs during the show.
