The appointment of two University Council members at Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) hangs in the balance after staff and students rejected them over what they see as questionable moral standing in academic society.
The government recently appointed Mukwanason A. Hyuha, Mahiri Balunywa and Nusura Tiperu as new government representatives to the council, replacing Ali Kirunda Kivejinja, Ibrahim Lubega Kaddunabbi and Aleru Huda, whose tenure expired last July. However, staff and students have rejected Hyuha and Balunywa, arguing that they are not fit to sit on IUIU's supreme governing body.
