Tunisia: Train Accident in El Mourouj Leads to Roadblock and Protest

A serious accident involving a young girl, who was hit by a train in El Mourouj, led to disturbances as locals blocked the principal access road to Tunis Business School this morning.

The girl, whose identity remains unknown, was rushed to a local hospital by emergency medical services and is in critical condition.

Fourat Trabelsi, a sophomore at Tunis Business School, was an eyewitness to the event. He said that the accident happened at approximately 8:35 a.m. today when the regional train coming from North-West Tunisia hit a girl in her twenties near the School. The angered inhabitants of the area, called "Aisha City," next the Central Market occupied the streets, barricading the main road with stones to prevent vehicles from passing through.

The incident led to a serious traffic jam, and it devolved into a protest as more people joined the crowd, calling for jobs and other improvements to their quality of life. According to Trabelsi, these disturbances continued from the immediate aftermath of the accident till around noon.
