Tunisia: Poll Results Show 78 Percent of Locals Trust President Marzouki

A recently released poll showed that most Tunisians are generally satisfied with the performance of Interim President Moncef Marzouki, garnering more support than Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali and the President of the National Constituent Assembly Mustapha Ben Jaafar.

Results of the poll revealed that more than 78% of Tunisians aged over 18 trust President Marzouki. Both Jebali and Ben Jaafar came second with a satisfaction rate of 66%. Regarding the rest of the nation's political figures, the former Transitional Prime Minister Beji Caid Essebsi, who came fourth with 65% of interviewees in favor, was followed by Rached Ghannouchi, leader of Islamist party Ennahda, with 61%.

Hend Bouatter, press attaché at 3C Etudes, the Tunisian marketing studies institute that conducted the survey, stated that 3,000 Tunisians participated in the poll. "We use a computer-assisted telephone interview for the survey, and we interviewed Tunisians from all over the country."

Major opposition leaders were also included in the poll. According to the results, 38% of Tunisians trust Maya Jribi of the Progressive Democratic Party. Hamma Hammami, leader of the Communist Labor Party (POCT), received an approval rate of 27%.

However, the overall performance of the government earned a 55% satisfaction rate - which is 11% less than that of February.

Correction: A previous version of this article stated that Marzouki was trusted by 87% of poll respondants. The correct figure is 78%.
