Uganda: Expedia Launches in Country

Kampala, Uganda — In an effort to extend the reach of Ugandan hotels to millions of travelers world wide, Expedia, Inc. the world's largest travel online company and Africa's Great Explorations (AGE Safaris) an indigenous East Africa tours and travel company have partnered to offer properties on Expedia's global travel sites.

Ugandan hotels will connect to sites such as Expedia.com®, Hotels.com®, Hotwire®, Egencia® and eLong TM.

The partnership that will see a cross section of Ugandan first class hotels gain access to nearly 60 million travelers that shop for and book travel on Expedia®- and Hotels.com®-branded travel booking sites in 70 countries worldwide each month was unveiled at the Kampala Serena Hotel.

Celia Casadome, Director Market Management Expedia said such a partnership will no wonder give Ugandan hotels a bigger presence world over as well as receive more guests and businesses.

"With AGE Safaris, we have formed a local team to help Ugandan hotels effectively offer their properties online on a global scale at no initial fee," Casadome explained. "Properties are rated according to international standards

Reflecting on the fact that Uganda was rated the world's most preferred tourist destination for 2012, Casadome said the innovation offers an opportunity for Ugandan to reap the fruits of the rating.

Expedia, Inc. currently focuses on hotel and lodge bookings whilst working with nearly 149,000 hotels and hundreds of airlines, rental car companies, cruise lines and tour operators in over 200 destinations across the globe.

Diana Kamuntu, CEO of AGE safaris said the partnership aims at driving the profitability of the hotel industry in Uganda with emphasis on team work and reliable communication.

"We admit the fact that some hotels in Uganda have dormant websites and yet communication is key to successful and profitable businesses," Kamuntu said.

"As the authorized agent of Expedia Inc, website updates will be required for competitive advantage with other hotels and lodges world over."

Basing on the Expedia performance with a 68% monthly growth in bookings with 65% made on the same or next day and 40% made on Friday or Saturday, Kamuntu noted that Uganda can add up to make a much better figure.

"Uganda is a country gifted by nature with over 1200 bird species and other features which ranked it among the top 13 countries world over in terms of biodiversity.

In North America, 80% of travel bookings are made online as hotels are made accessible. Ugandan hoteliers can presently reach out top AGE safaris which will connect them to Expedia at not extra cost.

"No fee is required to join Expedia Inc as they are paid on commission basis as per every hotel booking," she added.
