Namibia: Basic Education to Be Overhauled

DRASTIC proposed changes to the basic education curriculum that could balloon the education budget by billions were welcomed as a move in the right direction by educational experts, current and former teachers and other stakeholders yesterday.

Deputy Minister of Education David Namwandi would not be drawn into commenting on the financial implications of the proposed review, but acknowledged that they would be "serious". It is, however, unlikely that the proposed far-reaching review by the National Institute for Educational Development (NIED) will be implemented within the current medium-term expenditure framework.
