Ethiopia: Association to Commemorate 61st of Korean War

Addis Ababa — The Ethiopian Korean War Veterans Association said the 61st anniversary of commemoration of the participation of the Ethiopian soldiers in Korean War would be celebrated in the coming Saturday, the Association said.

In a press conference he gave here on Tuesday Association President Col. Melese Tesema said Ethiopia sent 6037 troops, Kagnaw Battalion to the May 1951-July 1953 Korean War following UN request, the then League of Nations.

He said Ethiopian hero-martyrs have accomplished their mission successfully.

The 61st commemorative event will cherish 122 fallen soldiers as state heroes.

The president said homage will be paid to patriots by putting down wreath of flowers at the EKWV Museum in Addis Ababa.

Col.Melese said Ethio-Korean relation have been strengthened by establishing sister city relation between Chuncheon town of Korea and Addis Ababa city.

The Korean government is granting scholarship opportunities to the descendants of the patriots.
