Corrupt Grain Marketing Board (GMB) officials, local pro-Zanu PF kraal heads and headmen have been fingered in the unfair distribution of maize grain to starving villagers in Manicaland province under the government grain loan scheme.
Reports from several districts in the province indicate that deserving people are failing to access grain from GMB. Only Zanu PF supporters are getting the maize that has sice found itself on the black market.
The MDC provincial executive has since advised those failing to access the loan to report to their local councillors, MPs or members of the Joint Monitoring and Implementation Committee (JOMIC) for assistance. Hon. Pishai Muchauyara, the Manicaland provincial Information and Publicity Secretary said the grain loan scheme must not be politicised as it is a government programme.
In Ward 29, Mutare West, two ghost villages were created by Zanu PF and GMB officials to hep them loot the grain. Villagers were this week shocked when names of non-existent people purported to be from villages Chikara B and Kusena B were called to collect their allocation.
In charge of distributing the grain in the ward were, Eric Batsirai Betera, a Zanu PF supporter, Jealous Makaza, a former Zanu PF councillor, Josphat Kusena, a Zanu PF supporter and an unidentified GMB official.
The government announced last month of the extention of the grain loan scheme to March next year to cushion villagers.
The people's struggle for real change: Let's finish it!!!
