Egypt: Hpec Accepts Shafiq's Appeal, Allows Him to Run for Presidency

The Higher Presidential Elections Commission (HPEC) under counselor Farouq Sultan accepted on Wednesday 25/4/2012 an appeal by excluded presidential candidate Ahmed Shafiq against the decision excluding him from the presidential race.

The move allows Shafiq to resume his pitch in the presidential race.

On Tuesday 24/4/2012, the HPEC decided to exclude Shafiq in light of amendments of the political rights law which prevent senior figures of the former regime and the disbanded National Democratic Party from practicing politics for ten years to come.
