Kenya: Marsabit Prison Warder Injured By Bandits On Isiolo-Moyale Road

A prison warder attached to Marsabit prison is admitted at Wamba Mission Hospital after armed bandits attacked him on the Isiolo-Moyale highway.

The bandits ambushed the warder who was ferrying cattle to Nairobi from Marsabit. Marsabit Central DC Ruto Kipchumba said the bandits sprayed the truck with bullets in the midday attack. He said the driver defied the order to stop prompting the bandits to shot indiscriminately.

Kipchumba said the officer was out of danger after the doctors managed to remove bullets launched in his body after the attack. He said several vehicles have been attacked at wamba hotspot and people killed after bandit lay ambush and target passengers and livestock on transit to Nairobi. "Joint security personnel have set up camps along the highways. The security team would be patrolling the areas affected to ensure no vehicles are attacked," he added.

He called upon the vehicles plying the route to be cautious and consider getting police escort to avert further attack especially at this time when the region was experiencing rain. More than 8 passengers have been killed and several others injured along the highway in the last one year as armed bandits cause terror in the area.
