The state of education in Matabeleland has come under the spotlight following poor performance of schools in the region in last year’s public examinations. The slump in performance has resulted in stakeholders convening an extra-ordinary education conference to scrutinise the matter and map the way forward for the region.
None of the schools from the three Matabeleland provinces made it to the top 10 in the country in 2011 public examinations, but a number of them trailed the list of the worst schools in the country, much to the embarrassment and disappointment of stakeholders.
