Ethiopia: Trio of Textile Chemical Manufacturers to Import Duty-Free

The government has selected one Turkish and two Swiss companies to start a privileged supply of chemicals to the local textile industry, with a commitment to set up factories in Ethiopia within five years.

Textile factories had been complaining to the government for years because they had not been able to import according to their needs, as lower prices were available only with bulk purchases, according to a senior official of the Textile Industry Development Institute (TIDI) who requested anonymity. Accordingly, the Institute and the Ministry of Industry (MoI) invited 15 international companies to make offers. Five responded, and DSF International of China and Adore Chemicals of India were rejected in the technical evaluation.
