Egypt: Candidates Fear Presidential Elections Delay

In a joint statement, presidential candidates, Hamdeen Sabahi, Abul Ezz Al-Hariri and Hisham Al-Bastawisi condemned Abassiya's violent clashes but warned of attempts to drag the nation into what they described as a "chaos scenario".

They insisted that such scenarios may produce legitimate concerns of a coup, elections delay or an extension of Egypt's transitional period.

Egypt's uprising is going through a rough patch where unity is required to carry on with the uprising against attempts to abort it, the statement said.

The candidates condemned the mindless bloodshed, insisting on their full respect to people's right to peaceful demonstration. They stressed however on their complete rejection to the vandalism of public and private installations

The three leftist contenders are currently involved in negotiations in an attempt to form a pro-revolution presidential team.
