Nigeria: Family Holds Three-Day Prayers for Yekini in Kaduna

Kaduna — A three-day prayer was observed in honour of late legendary footballer, Rashidi Yekini at his family residence on AJ 12 Ribadu Crescent Tudun Nupawa, Kaduna yesterday.

The prayers for the late footballer who died on Friday in Oshogbo, Osun State, lasted for about two hours.

Yekini spent his childhood in Kaduna and started his football career at UNTL football club, Kaduna.

Praying for Yekini, the Chief Imam of Ira Mosque in Kaduna, Ustaz Mohammad Maruf Adeyemo prayed Allah to forgive the sins of late Super Eagle scorer and grant him paradise.

Chief preacher of Ira Muslim Council, Kaduna state branch, Mohammad Jamiu Daradenu also prayed Allah to grant the late footballer Aljanat Fridausi.

"Death is a necessary call that we must all answer but we must all endeavour to conduct our activities in consonance with the teachings of Islam so that we can be rewarded with paradise hereafter," he said.

Meanwhile, the Onira of Ira Land, in Kwara State where Rashidi Yekini hails from, Alhaji Abdulwahab Oyewale Oyeyoro 1, has described the late footballer as one of the finest and patriotic sports person ever produced in Nigeria.

"He will be greatly missed not only here in his home town, Ira but the entire country and particularly among soccer fans across the globe", he said.

The traditional ruler also appealed to sports authorities to immortalize the late goal poacher.
