Super Eagles Head Coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi yesterday reiterated his preference for the local boys, as he stated categorically that he does not need big names but players who are ready to give their all for the team.
Speaking in Abuja at the ongoing Win in Africa with Africa coaching course (WIWA), the former Eagles Captain said having played for the national team with utmost commitment, he would not expect anything less from the present players.
Keshi said he is going to accept only those players who would come forward with a strong desire to serve their fatherland, stressing that he would not force any player to play for the country.
"Really I don't need big names. I need players with character, I need people that are coming to sweat for Nigeria, play the game more than 120 percent. I need somebody who is going to come here and tell me coach, I am ready to play", he explained.
The coach said the last players he would wish to work with are those who would come to the team's camp and boss other players and cause unnecessary divisions in his team.
His words: "I don't want somebody who will come and give me shoulders, give the team shoulders and divide the team. I am not ready for that. We must have a united team.
"We are like one family. I want the best attitude, best character on the field. Play the game, win matches and that's it", he stressed.
In a related development, Keshi said a team cannot win all the times so he is not so much concerned about winning at the moment as much as he is concerned with building a formidable squad.
He said, if FC Barcelona which is widely considered to be the world's best club and Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in Europe are losing matches, it only goes to show that a team is bound to win and also suffer defeat at times.
Keshi therefore maintained that even if Eagles lose against Peru in the forth coming friendly in Lima, he would not lose sleep because he is still re-building the national team.
"You can't win match. You should know that. Even Barcelona that everybody is claiming to be the best team in the world is losing. Manchester United one of the biggest teams in England, they lose matches. Losing probably makes you get better by reviewing the whole game and bringing the boys back on earth.
"The most important thing is for me to get the best out of my players, make them understand what we are doing. This is a team of four to five months and we have played only like four games. So winning is not paramount right now, it is just to bring the unit, the chemistry back, and then look for the necessary cohesion. We can start thinking about winning in June", he noted.
