Nigeria: Rivers LG Sacks 200 Workers

The Asari-Toru Local Government Council of Rivers State has terminated the appointment of more than 200 workers in the council. Chairman of the council Mr Flag Amachree said in a statement yesterday that the affected workers were mainly from the Health Department of the council.

Amachree said investigation showed that the affected workers lacked the requisite requirements to be staff of the council.

He added that the affected workers were not nominated by the council to the Rivers State College of Health Science and Technology and as such were not employees of the council.

Meanwhile, Comrade Saliye Jackreece, chairman of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees in the council, has said that the sack poses a great threat to healthcare delivery in the area.

Jackreece pleaded with the council to have a rethink and recall the affected workers.
