Saad Muhammad Rasland, an Egyptian Islamic scholar ,who is also the proprietor of Khalid Bun Waleed Islamic School, along The Kairaba Avenue on Sunday presented cash, watches, carpets and other valuable items to the outstanding students in his school. The occasion was attended by parents and guardians of the outstanding students among others.
Sheriff Karamo Jatta, principal of Khalid Bun Waleed, said the awardees are the finalists of a Quranic competition they staged among the students in the school and students who passed last year's grade six examination with flying colours.
Jatta noted that Khalid Bun Waleed is among the best Islamic schools in the Gambia, as it first entered the nationwide examination in 2009 and secured the positions of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th. In the 2010 nationwide examination conducted by Ammana, the school secured the 2nd, 7th, and 8th positions and in 20123rd, 11th, 12th positions.
On his part, Saad Muhammad Rasland said that the students of the school have been excelling since inception and his efforts to that effect have been very fruitful. He said this is the reason why he is awarding deserving students as a token of appreciation. He also noted that President Jammeh is one of the leaders who normally conduct Quranic competition among the pupils in The Gambia and that he is following the footsteps ofthe Gambian leader.
He however revealed that the school needs more space to accommodate more students and in the coming years they will look into that issue. He finally commended the teachers for their hard work and dedication to duty.
