The President of Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Aminu Maigari has expressed shock at comments in some quarters that the NFF 'abandoned' the late Nigerian striker, Rashidi Yekini.
Yekini, Nigeria's record international goalscorer, died after a brief illness in Oshogbo, Osun State on Friday, May 4.
"It is incorrect to say that the NFF abandoned the late football hero. We made several efforts to reach him, and even announced it in the media sometime last year that we were looking for him. We went beyond that to send several persons to Yekini but he just didn't want to have anything to do with anybody, apparently", Maigari said.
"Those who are talking know the truth. They also know that no NFF administration has done as much as we have to bring to the fold colleagues of late Yekini in the Super Eagles, and other ex-international players. This is a fact," he stated.
The eighth day prayer holds in his family compound in Ira, Kwara State in the morning of Saturday, May 12.
Maigari will lead other top members of the NFF to the occasion, according to Ademola Olajire, the Federation's Media Officer.
