Angola: Corner-Stone for Calando Farming Project Laid

Dundo — The governor of north-eastern Lunda Norte province, Ernesto Muangala, will this Saturday lay, in the city of Lucapa, the foundation stone for the construction of the Calando farming project.

The project will be implemented on an area of 500,000 hectares, with 24 large, medium and small scale farms, with 5,000 hectares each, for the planting of maize, cassava and the raising of 500 heads of cattle, 20 bulls and 10 horses.

The Calonda project will be implemented in four phases until its completion and expects to generate 600 new direct jobs for youths of Lucapa district.

The aforesaid project is the result of a partnership between the Provincial Government of Lunda Norte and the Capilongo Angola Group, aimed at combating poverty within the population and the development of the farming sector in the region.

According to the CEO of the Capirongo Angola Group, Claudimiro Pereira Pinto, the corner stone will be laid this Saturday, but the initial phase of the project is already underway for five months. It has 40 employees.

He said, moreover, that the area for the implementation of the project has favourable conditions for farming and cattle-raising, given the existence of thatching grass for grazing animals.
