Rundu — Rundu Chiefs secured their second promotion to the Namibian Premier League on Saturday after beating Touch and Go 3-2 in Rundu sparking wild celebrations among the players, fans and an emotional management team.
Brave Warriors starlet, Petrus "Dancing Shoes" Shitembi, netted a memorable hat-trick to send Chiefs into the country's topflight league and in the process clinched the N$50 000 first prize.
"Dancing Shoes" as Shitembi is affectionately known, darted past the ball-watching Touch and Go rearguard before he unleashed a low left footed pile driver into the bottom corner of the net. The silky midfielder was not done yet and was immediately back in the thick of things as he added another goal via a well-executed free kick.
The Warriors' Wunderkind proved to be in a different class as he tormented the visitors defense, but the Otavi-based outfit managed to claw their way back into the tie and stunned the hosts with two goals from Ben Ruiter and Gas Haramseb, that brought the teams on level terms going into the break.
With time ticking by, Shitembi earned his team a penalty after he was fouled as the match looked destined for a draw. He dusted himself off and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to complete his hat-trick (3-2) - sending the home crowd into wild celebrations.
However, Chiefs' celebrations were dealt a major blow when they were brought down to mother earth by gravity in their final league match against traditional rivals Cuca Tops. The black and white striped outfit scored two unanswered goals in a match of convenience against their archrivals.
Having lost 2-1 the previous day against Julinho FC, Cuca Tops ended their season on a high note with a convincing display against the newly-crowned Northern Stream First Division Champions.
Meanwhile, Tura Magic, won the Southern Stream First Division with another round of matches to go. Jakes Amaning's side played a 1-all draw against Young Beauties at the J Stephanus Stadium in Keetmanshoop, but the Katutura outfit got a helping hand from an unlikely source - Fedics United - who held promotion chasers Monitronics to a 1-all stalemate at the same venue. Tura Magic will now make their long awaited entrance to the country's elite league - come next season.
