Kenya: Siaya Dominate Handball and Netball in Schools Show

Siaya region dominated the handball and netball girls finals with Sega Girls and Obambo retaining their titles in the just concluded Nyanza Provincial Secondary School Term Two "A" Games. In handball Sega successfully defended their Nyanza title after walloping Kadero Sunrise from Kisumu 23-14 to qualify for the nationals.

Isabella Atieno and Rebecca Oduor scored the highest number of goals to aid their team retain the trophy. Atieno and Oduor scored seven goals each while Rose Abongo and Lilian Achieng score three goals each for Sunrise.

The third and fourth places went to Siger of Bondo and Sengera of Gucha. Siger hammered Sengera 34-13. During the semis Sega outshined Siger 22-16 while Sunrise frustrated Sengera 23-7 to gain entry into the finals.

In the quarters, Sega demolished Isamwera of Kisii 22-6 while Gucha Girls outshined Rae of Nyando 19-10. In netball, Obambo who are also the National champions retained the trophy after they whitewashed Kobala of Rachuonyo 43-17 in an entertaining match played at Kisii High School. Favourite Nancy Auro scored 10 goals to see her team retain the championship while Dorothy Awuor scored five goals for Kobala. Ogande of Homa Bay beat Lwak of Bondo 40-28 in their playoff to take position three. Obambo principal George Ayanga said that his team which is also last year's National champions had prepared well for the win. "This is a new team with young and talented girls. They have defended the title well so we are now looking forward to Bujumbura," Ayanga said.

In boys handball finals, Itierio from Kisii trampled Orero of Homa Bay 31-28 in a match that attracted a huge crowd. Dominic Osongo and Victor Nyabara dominated the game scoring 10 and 7 goals respectively to aid their team win the provincial trophy. In semis Itierio ashamed Maseno while Orero defeated Chianda.

In the quarters Iterio hammered Rapogi of Migori 24-19 while Orero qualified after beating Ukwala of Siaya 32-26. Chianda school of Bondo walloped Mbita of Suba 29-23 to proceed to semis while Maseno school a shamed Thurgem of Nyando 23-13.
