Egypt: Local Embassies Announce Results of Elections By Expatriate Locals

The results of the presidential elections held by the Egyptian embassies abroad indicate that presidential candidate Dr. Abdel Moneim Abol Fotouh comes in the lead followed by Hamdeen Sabahi.

Figures confirmed sharp competition between presidential candidates Amr Moussa and Mohamed Morsi.

Candidate Ahmed Shafiq came in the fifth place.

Representatives of candidates have commended the fairness of vote casting and counting.

Amidst sharp controversy on the announcement of the results of elections, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the announcement of results came in line with the directives of the Higher Presidential Elections Commission (HPEC).

Amr Rushdy, the Spokesmen for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Egyptian embassies and consulates are considered as sub voting stations and hence they should hand over representatives of candidates a copy of the results upon ending vote counting.
