Egypt: Khaled Ali Starts Hunger Strike for Abassiya Detainees

Labor lawyer and presidential candidate Khaled Ali announced his participation in a 24-hour hunger strike in solidarity with Abassiya detainees.

Ali posted on his Twitter account, "I, Khaled Ali, declare a 24-hour hunger strike, on May 20, in solidarity with protesters, detained in Abassiya clashes, currently on a hunger strike".

Abassiya detainees decided to wage a hunger strike on Sunday, May 20, until their demands are met, Dostour reported. These demands are: their immediate release without conditions, an end to military trials and to be tried by civilian courts.

The military police and central security forces detained tens of protesters in recent clashes by the Defense Ministry.
