Zambia: Arrows, Diggers Triumph

CHAMPIONS Red Arrows thrashed helpless Nkwazi to remain two points adrift leaders 'Men At Work' Diggers, who humbled Chibuluma, as the first round of matches in the Zambia Rugby Football Union (ZRFU) national rugby league (NRL) came to a close after the week eight games played.

Diggers lead the log with 34 points after collecting a bonus in their 46-3 win over Chibuluma and are followed by Arrows with 32 after gaining, who also won with a bonus points, as former champions 'Powerhouse' Lusaka remain third with 31 points following a narrowly 10-6 win over 'Killer Bees' Ndola Wanderers.

The league goes on a month recess as the Sevens tournaments take root starting with the Luanshya games this weekend which will be followed by the Mufulira Sevens on June 2 before Eagles hosts the Heroes tournament a week later with league action expected to resume on June 16.

On Arrows victory, Edward Mumba scored four tries with Nkole Kaoma posting a brace as Daniel Sakala, Nigel Chibwe, Chibesa Mwape, Jolly Chama, Mwansa Chabala and Sydney Mwansapa placed a try apiece and Sakala made all the conversions.

Diggers 46 Chibuluma 3

Diggers remained on course to win their first league title since relinquishing the crown to Lusaka in 2008 and got the much needed win through Kaluba Chilundami who scored two tries, Chiluba Kangwa, George Funga, Longa Chikwamo and Ephraim Musukwa a try each.

The home side added on four penalties which were scored by Kabwela Mulenga and Beneya Mukwamba as Chibuluma poor showing continued.

Ndola 6 Lusaka 10

Lusaka scored two tries through Shelleni Michello to inspire his side to victory over a struggling Ndola side that has just managed one victory this season over Eagles but have now lost seven matches.

Roan 8 Buffaloes 12

Buffaloes got back to winnings ways after beating Roan with tries from Larry Kaushiku and Robert Tembo as Sotho Kafwimbe could only manage one conversion. Roan scored a try and penalty through Patrick Chama.
