CHIPOLOPOLO skipper Chris Katongo on Saturday scored his fifth goal of the 2012 Chinese Super League when he propelled Henan Jianye to a 1-0 home win against struggling Shanghai Shenhua who featured former French international striker Nicolas Anelka.
Katongo played a full match scoring in the 56th minute to surge to fifth on the top scorers' chart, a goal more than fellow Chipolopolo player James Chamanga of Dalian Shide who came on as a 90th minute substitute in his team's 2-2 away against Shandong Luneng.
Romanian 21-year-old striker Cristian Danalache of third placed Jiangsu Sainty leads the topscorers' chart with eight goals in the 16-team league that starts in February/March ending in November/December.
Katongo's Jianye, who have four wins, surge to 10th on the table with 13 points the same number of points as Chamanga's Shide who occupy eighth position because of a better goal difference while big spenders Shenhua are third from bottom.
Katongo and Chamanga are both scheduled to join Chipolopolo at a training camp at Milpark in Johannesburg, South Africa that commenced yesterday to prepare for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Africa zone Group D qualifying matches against Sudan and Ghana.
Meanwhile, South Africa Absa Premiership champions Orlando Pirates are believed to be seeking the services of Zambian and BloemfonteinCeltic midfielder Clifford Mulenga to further boost their squad.
This is according to KickOff.com who have revealed that The Buccaneers have already agreed a pre-contract deal with Bidvest Wits defender Patrick Phungwayo.
Mulenga seems to be next on the radar, with news reaching KickOff.com that Bucshave already put in an offer, though they face competition from SuperSport United.
"Pirates and SuperSport are interested in Mulenga and I believe that Pirates have already made an offer for him. The player is excited because he wants a big challenge of playing for a big Gauteng team and he believes that the move will get the best out of him," the source said.
Zambian midfielder Isaac Chansa is currently playing for Pirates though reports suggest he may cross over to rivals Kaizer Chiefs due to lack of playing time at the club.
