Sudan: Fire Breaks Out Near Kass

Kass — A large fire broke out in a market near Kass in South Darfur on Saturday.

Witnesses said the fire destroyed 32 shops and many shelters estimating the damage at around 250 million Sudanese pounds.

They said the fire is the third of its kind to happen at the market and spread quickly due to the strong winds and lack of emergency fire service.

The witnesses appealed to the government of South Darfur to compensate those affected and provide the area with fire engines and extinguishers to give people a chance to control any future fires.

They said the cause of the fire remains unknown.
