Gambia: 'Drug Peddler' in Court

One Jawo Ceesay, a resident of Farafenni was on Tuesday arraigned before Principal Magistrate Sheriff Tabally of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court. The accused was charged with being in possession of prohibited drug, contrary to the Laws of The Gambia.

According to the particulars of the offence, the accused, Jawo Ceesay on the 17th of February 2012 at Farafenni in the North Bank Region, had in his possession 270g of Cannabis sativa, a prohibited drug, thereby committed an offence.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and the prosecutor, Corporal Ndongo Gaye, applied for an adjournment to call his witnesses to testify.

The accused person was granted bail in the sum of D300, 000 with two Gambian sureties. The case was adjourned to the 29th May 2012.
