Kenya: 23 Pupils Injured in Kitui Lorry Accident

Twenty-three pupils of Mandongoi Primary School were injured after a lorry they had boarded to a sporting event overturned. They were rushed to Kitui District Hospital. Following the 9am accident at Kwa-Katune on the Kanyangi-Kitooni roadin Kitui county, a pupils suffered multiple fructures. A teacher, Mary Kieti, suffered a deep gash in the right side of her face.

At the time of the accident, the lorry had about seventy pupils on board. The children were being ferried to Kanyangi market where the zonal sports where being held yesterday. Mandongoi head teacher Justus Syengo said the pupils were being treated at the hospital and they were out of danger. "This is just a minor accident and we are treating it as such. The lorry was not speeding. We can only blame the accident on the bad state of the road at the stretch where the accidents occurred. Many other accidents have occurred at Kwa-Kitune spot oflate," Syengo told the media.
