Libreville — The President of the Gabonese Republic, Ali Bongo Ondimba, has just completed a three-day official visit to the UK during which he met with his British counterpart, Prime Minister David Cameron. The Head of State also used this time in London to present his Emerging Gabon policy to investors and promote his development vision for Africa.

On Thursday 17 May, the Head of State met with Prime Minister David Cameron at 10 Downing Street. Both men pledged to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries and expressed their desire to increase trade between Gabon and the United Kingdom. During this meeting with Mr Cameron, the President of Gabon expressed the hope that British companies would set up in Gabon and invest more permanently in the African country in order to help develop the economy. The two Heads of State spoke of their concern relating to the political instability of some Sahelian countries and had an in-depth discussion about the related security issues. President Ali Bongo Ondimba praised the United Kingdom's valuable contribution in the fight against piracy off the coast of Somalia while his British counterpart stressed the vital role played by Gabon in the promotion of peace during the country's time as a member of the United Nations Security Council between 2010 and 2011.
